Blogging remotely

This is the first time I have written to the blog from my iPhone...

Making slow progress as I blend the old with the new. Sometimes it's just a matter of changing a word here or there. Sometimes I have to rewrite or delete a whole paragraph.

I am rapidly approaching the point where I will be deleting whole sections for the new ending. My goal is to reach that point tonight. Tomorrow starts NANOWRIMO which I plan to use to get Dragon's Revenge going. Then I can tie the two stories together.

The view a little further on...

Well, I finally finished the battle between three dragons and two DragonHawks. The battle occured in Morgan's mind as he battled against the Black Dragon over control of his mind. He was helped by his grandmother and her Dragon Within. Then at the last, they are all saved by Morgan's Battle Within, Tycho.

At least a first run through of the battle. But we'll leave it alone for a while and move on.

Coming up on NANOWRIMO (July 1 thru July 31), 50,000 words in one month. Search for "No Plot, No Problem" if you want to know more. 1700 words per night.

Originally I committed to turn away from the DragonHawk Saga and work on another idea I had, project name: "Travelin' Jack." Its about a time traveler, who can control when and where he goes backwards or forwards in time. Not so sure about how that would work out. But I don't want to start another DragonHawk story. Too much work to do to the stories I already have started.

Well, time to do some writing...

Motivation and Inspiration

Seem to be missing a bit of both these days. Storylines and details that swirl through my mind and make sense when I think them through just don't seem to be making it to the story...
Thinking about backing off for a while... Let things sit and see what happens...

Chug, Chug, Chug, Chug, Chug

Just chugging along. Maybe losing the changes I made last week was not so bad after all. Trying to add some suspense in the storyline. What happened to Morgan? Where is he? Who has found him?

Time for some more chug...

ARRRGGGG!

That's the sound you make when you come home from work and find out that while you were juggling files last night (late last night/this morning) that you wiped out everything you did over the weekend.

What does that do to the famous "Break Through" (see yesterday's entry)?

Well, I know what I want to do, all I have to do is do it.

Later,

Dave

Breaking Through the Block...

Early this morning about 0200 hours, I finally broke through the block that had been stifling me for the past couple of weeks. In the process, I streamlined part of Dragon Summer, combining three chapters and deleting about 30 pages of text. It feels good to be back on the move. And I don't think the story was hurt by the changes.
Speaking of changes, Blogger put out some new templates, so I have been playing with the look and feel. Let me know what you think!

Blogging tonight from a Remote Location!

Tonight I am blogging from a remote location. My new Acer Aspire laptop on the other side of the desk! Father's Day and my birthday came a little early this year. I also received a new iPhone 3GS. Don't know what I did to deserve all of this...

Still working on integrating Chapters 7 and 8 of Dragon Summer. Quite a departure from the original story, but I think better. More believable. Charl, a Hawkkur trooper on the monitoring team's security detail will find Morgan unconscious in the woods. Charl, who goes by the local name of Charlie, is the projectionist and handyman at the drive-in. Every evening, after the drive-in is closed, he goes for a short run through the surrounding woods, part exercise, part security perimeter sweep. There are a lot of sophisticated sensors protecting the team and their secret station, but Charl prefers take a look at things himself. He is religiously loyal to Mani and Makala Hawkes. And they trust him with their lives...

Anyway, that's the plan.

More later,

Dave

Chugging Right Along...

Combining Chapter 7 and Chapter 8 is working out pretty good. Chugging right along towards the Shining White Walls...

Getting Unstuck

For the last two weeks I have been stuck on Chapter 7 in Dragon Summer. The original plan I had was to have a bunch of short vignettes, consisting of Morgan's Dragon Dreams. Well, I could not make that work so I was trying to find a way to rewrite it.
What I am in the process of doing is dumping most of Chapter 7, salvaging only one of the dreams that is moved into Chapter 8. Which will now become Chapter 7.
It's like the hack and slash I talked about earlier. In the past I have been hesitant to delete, even cut, saving bits and pieces of everything. Now not so much. And I think it is helping my writing.
Meanwhile, back to work. Its 10:15 PM and I want to fix the new Chapter 7 before the night ends. The end of the first part of Dragon Summer is rapidly approaching and the Shining White Walls are near!

Thanks for reading! Please leave a comment or just say hello!

A new look...

Like the new look? I added Twitter and was playing around with the template, decided to make some changes.

Tell me what you think!

A Little Hack and Slash is good for the soul!

Working my way through Dragon Summer last night. Found a few paragraphs that I did not like so I deleted them!
That may not sound like a big deal, but for me it is! I very rarely have the guts to delete something. I try to save or salvage everything. I think that is a flaw in my writing. I have to be willing to say: "It's garbage! Just delete it!"
Last night I deleted a whole chapter. And I think I have a lot more to delete. You know you can drag some parts of a story out for just so long...
Back to the writing. I'm watching "Enter the Dragon" with Bruce Lee on AMC tonight. Best kung fu movie every made!

Cheers!

Plodding along...

I haven't been writing very much lately. I've been having a dry spell as far as original thought is concerned. So I took a break from the stories...
Here we are at the First of June. In another months, the group I write with each year will launch our annual NANOWRIMO (July 1 thru July 31). The official session is in November, but who has time to write then? Since we have a bunch of young writers (many who are more talented than I ever will be!), we write in July, while everyone is out of school.
Meanwhile, I am far away from the Star Trader Galaxy, helping Morgan find his way on some backwater planet known to the Star Traders only as TS9329P3. See if we can't get him a little further down the road tonight.

It's all in my head!

Hi there friends and readers of the DragonHawk Saga! It's Friday and I am happy to report I have resolved some of the major problems I...
